Second Graders will be coming home with Zentangled Pumpkins this week that we designed in art class! We looked at the idea of contrast and pattern while making these decorated pumpkins.
WOW!!! If you have a child who goes to West for Kindergarten, make sure to give them extra praise today! We had an amazing time today finishing up the background of our Emily Carr inspired tree pictures.
We got a little messy with our paint drips on the floor, but everyone REALLY enjoyed themselves and did a great job on their paintings! Happy Tuesday Morning! KindergartenKindergarten has been working on Primary and Secondary colors. We looked at artists Piet Mondrian and Paul Cezanne as inspiration. Practicing their gluing, artist glued primary color squares and black lines to create a geometric design. Next they explored printmaking techniques by printing with apple halves and then using bright crayons to decorate. Whats next? We will explore color while making Kandinsky-like circles! first gradeFirst grade artists looked at artist Henri Rousseau and the beautiful Jungle landscapes he created. We learned about foreground, middleground, and background and used that idea to make our own jungles. Up next - Color Spectrum Leaf Prints and an exploration of color! Second GradeSecond grade started with a review of foreground, middleground, and background, and then a little writing about a special place. Using multiple papers, artist created a collage to show this special place, real or fake. Now we are painting still life flowers like Vincent van Gogh. Third GradeThird graders experimented with many different items in making these Expressionist Portraits. Oil pastel drawings, covered with watercolor paint, then we added a funny photo of our faces. Artist worked on writing sentences about things they liked, which we also added to our design. Whats next? Learning about Australian Aboriginal Art! Fourth GradeFourth graders started by looking at the figure. We practiced quick gesture drawings of people in motion and looked at mankins to see the different parts of the body. Next we turned to Matisse, learning a little about his art and work. We used his work for inspiration for our colorful Paper Cut outs. Next - Harlem Renaissance Fifth GradeFifth grade artist started the year by looking at color. We used resist materials and experimented with watercolor paints. With then made color collection boards that we took outside. After seeing the color in nature, we gained inspiration from Andy Goldsworthy and worked in groups to create outdoor installations. Next we will be moving into Pop Art and working on Andy Warhol inspired relief prints.
